APIIT/UCTI Education
Last few days, thekid had given me a link regarding APIIT/UCTI lecturer Bachelor Degree’s grade where he got the link from Aaron Ho’s blog. Guess what, I got surprised that the lecturer was a 3rd class undergraduate student in APIIT/UCTI. Supposing a lecturer should be at least holding a Master Degree so I got no evidence to point out whether Ms. Sunita is eligible to become a lecturer.
7th March 2008 Update: The link above has been deleted by APIIT/UCTI. Well, my 6 cents so accurate.
Don’t believe it is real case? I think Google won’t cheat you right? you should check it out at Google Cached page or type the lecturer’s name on Google search engine. You’ll know what I mean

Wah…..luckily I’m not ur lecturer……..if not then u will exposed my result to everyone…hehehe.
Normally for university and college, there is a requirement for lecturers to have at least a Masters degree to teach a bachelor degree subjects and of course a PhD to teach a Masters subject. For Foundation and Diploma, a good degree will be required. Good degree means at least 2nd Class Upper with some being exceptional at 2nd Class Lower results. Besides result, another important criteria will be the passion to teach and learn.
kaiwah: I think you got more knowledge about education. As a student, we don’t talk bad on lecturer as long as you are a quality lecturer. As you mentioned above, I don’t think the lecturer I had mentioned on this post meet the first criteria where she doesn’t have 2nd Class Upper grade. Plus I don’t think she have a passion to teach and learn because she used to concentrate on her mobile phone than a specific class. So I got no idea about the college I currently attend right now
omg..that day i rad about it and get to know that she is a thrid class student. and now eligible to become a supervisor n lecturer…so we tapau ba……
Abby: We tapao ba!!
Yeah, I thought a lecturer needs at least a Masters degree. Even my A Level lectures had minimum Masters.
lynnx01: So good! so did you admire your lecturer?
Masters, PhD or Datukship… please dig up some dirt on my lecturer, cannot tahan her lah! Haha.. Not that there’s a legitimate reason for me wanting her out of my sight (like not having proper qualifications), but everytime she steps into the class., i feel like something bad’s going to happen. Negative aura/feng shui i think. HAHA!
My classmates do complain a little as well, saying she’s old fashioned (cannot use calculator, must memorize etc.) but other lecturers say that we will thank her one day just like her previous students. UGH, i’ll thank her if i’m still alive by the end of this semester. HAHA!
BYE!
p.s. I admit, i prejudice against all teachers actually. Including my mum. XD
BYE!
No wonder I failed lah. I want refund!!!
LoL, i hav 2 class with her sumore…foundation and lvl2…pls dun let me meet her at lvl3 plssssss………..if not i will produce 1 movie name die hard 10.0
Wah, her class must be fun! I want to study in apiit! Apiit got lots of lenglui or not? Wakakakaka…
have u make an inquiry to the APIIT? see how is their explaination.
Haha… kesian sunita…lucky she never teach us this sem..if not…i can go jump =.=…
last time apiit in my class, got 50% guys 50% girls. Now my bro’s class kinda pathetic.. 3 girls out of 50 people. LOL…. i ROFL at him….
3rd class also can get lecturer post…then if i fail at least got tutor post ???
I know this lecturer - taught me last year and my cousin also was taught by her in Inti. I think she joined APIIT/UCTI after teaching for 5 yrs at Inti.
Also I think only teaching Diploma/First Yr subjects only. Not so bad lah.. only sometimes lately a lot of personal problems so a bit distracted. But she is quite concerned for students and has the knowledge.
Maybe APIIT need to be more strict with lecturers.
I know this lecturer - taught me last year and my cousin also in Inti before. Actually I found out she was teaching at Inti 4 5 yrs before coming 2 APIIT. Not so bad lah but sometimes got personal problems so a bit distracted at tms.
Anyway I hrd APIIT Management want to replace her…..don’t know how far this is true
Why APIIT so little girls studying?
erm I got no idea… But better than last few years already
May be even APIIT 3rd Class Students are better than many of our Uni Graduates.. I know one of my friend, he just did a Diploma with a Pass from APIIT 2 years ago and making good money now. He is now doing his part-time degree at APIIT just to get better career development.
I asked him, he said Sunita also teaches him and she has good knowledge…
I am from a local U, half of my lecturers are PHD and Prof and half of them don’t know what to teach……My mistake of doing well in STPM and going to a local uni…I wish I was at APIIT too after seeing my friend.
Chongsy: I don’t know about your friend but to me, Sunita just directly read from the slide without demonstrate the way to us at all
Greetings,
I am an ex APIIT student currently working with a multinational company. I would like to emphasize that results dont really matter much, its all up to you as a person, and in those days, a 3rd Class degree was equivalant to todays 2nd Upper, YES, it was that difficult to secure good grades! The standard have been lowerd by authorities, that means students nowdays have easier syllabus. And you can say what you want, APIIT is still the BEST for IT and Business. I have compared syllabusses from other colleges and also teaching methods, they are nowhere near APIIT. Even when they hire lecturers or staff they thoroughly test the personnel on their subject matter. I know this because a relative of mine tried to find a job and shared the interview questions with me. Not only that, despite not having good grades, this company still hired me, why? Because they know, an average student in APIIT is still a better candidate for employment. I do not mean to boast, but because of my hardwork and dedication that i learnt when studying in APIIT, I have progressed and am quite sought after by rival companies. So results is not everything.
As far as lecturer’s are concerned, as a student, sometimes I was kia su, because I was better at a few things than the lecturer, but then after a few failures, I realised, it was my fault for not trying to learn what the lecturer was teaching me, i was too arrogant that I know designing better than him.I dont blame all of you for thinking that technological knowledge is the measure of credibility, that was the same mistake I made. But as I gained industrial experience, i learnt my lesson. The truth is technology is merely a tool to assist. Intelligence is how you use technology to your advantage. That was what the lecturer was trying to teach me, but i didnt bother to learn because I was too aroogant that I know flash better than him. Let me share with you a few example my lecturer used when teaching me, the same lecturer I was kia su with and now I thank him for teaching me this.
Writing a software is like writing a book.Your programming tools are like characters, like abc. Using these tools we learn how to write sentences. The sentences will then make a pragraph. And all the paragraphs create chapters. When you get all the chapters together and put them properly, you get a whole book, like a complete software package.
Many of us make the mistake that just because we know some advanced coding, we know better than the lecturer. But remember, that is only the abc. And even if you know something so advanced, what are u gonna use it for? U will just be wasting your time. There are so many resources on the net, when u need it u can get it, why bother now when u dont need it? Even the dumbest nut can be smarter than u in a week, thats how much resources there are. In one implimentation in my company, just because I know SQL Server, i try to use it instead of Access db which is the requirement, thinking my boss will be happy.. instead, he screwed me up, saying that i should meet the requirements. Why install something which’ll take more space on the server and be charged more for it when access is good enough for the job?
See, we’re so indulged in technology that we forget business requirements. We forget, we only good at abc, not writing sentences. I compare sentences to business processes. before u jump at programming, what is the requirement, how do u analyse and identify the problem? Are the problems interdependent? Can you impliment something without disrupting other processes? In future what possible problems can occur around your solution? if you know something advanced, is it cost efficient to use it or will a low level solution be sufficient? How are you gonna put all the sentences together and make the book? Remeber, the book must be in an orderly fashion and with a proper flow. These are many questions we forget as students and we realise that “oh my lecturer thaught me this when in APIIT” after we kena tiu from bosses.
Technical knowledge is peanuts, it is the business and analysis knowledge that is valuable, and this can only be gained from lecturer’s or seniors and also from experience, where as technical knowledge can be learnt anytime from websites and programming forums online, no big deal.
I hope you all have learnt something from my comments and please do remember, every lecturer we meet has something to teach us, if we consentrate carefully, we will learn what they really are trying to teach us. I have made mistakes and learnt my lesson, I only hope all of you will not make the same mistake. I wrote these comments only to share my experience and not to kena kan anyone, so i hope no one is offended and my humble apologies if so. I wish you all good luck in future undertakings
The wise one
As I was sharing my experience as a student and as a working individual in previous post, I hope my previous comment can shed light on some issues many students face before they proceed to become employees. Before we point fingers at lecturers or staffs, let us all ask ourselves, are we doing things right? Are we learning what we are actually being taught or are we being irresponsible and looking at what we know rather than trying to see what we don’t know? Please do sit and ponder.
If anyone has any good resources or things to share about as in whats happening in the it world and also anything intresting goin on in APIIT, please do share it with me. APIIT used to have many industrial talks, are they still on very frequently? If given the opportunity, please do attend these industrial talks and events, there is a lot to learn in such talks. Also, if there are any ex APIITians, around, please do share their industrial experience so that we can be of some help to our juniors. APIIT really is a great place to study and learn, I’m glad and proud that I was a part of it, and I’m quite sure most of you who are studying there will feel the same.
BTW, no offence to anyone, its ok to mention a lecturer’s name, but i beleive revealing the results is a bit offensive, i mean these are personal things, not trying to scold anyone or anything, but these are professional work ethics. The reason why I’m highlighting this is that if a future employer was to see this, he/she will think twice on hiring u, because if u can find personal information bout a lecturer and do a personal attack like this, u are capable of leaking out confidential information from a company, and that is a risk he/she will not take, that is how a manager will think.
Everything that a person does, reflects on themselves first. Again, I’m not trying to hit on anyone, but please carefully think about what I’m going to day, perhaps the lecturer may be nasty, but as a student, is this the attitude and ethics that you want to showcase? If you as a student can do this to your lecturer, what treatment will you give to your client? This is another thing a future employer will HEAVILY consider because in real life, a client can and at times will be a LOT more nastier than the nastiest lecturer you may have met. The employer will see this as an attitude problem. I may not have the right to question any of these, but these are things that one must seriously think about, things that are actually evaluated when you want to join the industry or a company.
So, please be professional in all that you do, never leave any room for shortcomings and avoid critisizing, always focus on what you must do, only then one can go far. Take this as an advice from an elder brother. Take care
I posted this issue here because being a lecturer supposed to have a minimum requirement to become a lecturer. Although you’re enthusiast in lecture firm, I just pointed out APIIT will always welcome you
Anyway, I posted it already know I will face all the ethics next time. Actually after I had entered level-2, our intake complained a lecturer regarding the way they lecture. At the end the complains were useless…
Also, being an APIIT student, Im quite sad to heard about this too. But I just express my feeling on my blog. Thats all
Thank you for commenting on this post.
wao, people juz voice out the thg she want to express in her very own blog, + she din circticise the lecturer at all, but you take so much of time to write the comment that you say you din offense any1..but i guess, u already offense the author or the blog owner ….for the ethics and proffesionalism talk…the link is there, if they do not want people to know, why they still keeping the result for?..delete it …merdurian..dun worry , u did ntg wrong =P
WoW..She got things to teach me.. yea, she teach me screaming to the phone saying she want to jump down from APIIT.. Is that useful tool when we go out and work?? xD
“results dont really matter much” ???
she dun even qualify to bcome a lecturer………u expect her to teach us well?
r u her ex-student??? if yes, i dun think u will say this kind of thing or u r too lucky to be her 1 and oni 1 who teached well by her……….if u now ask all or her student….i think not even 1 person will say dat she’s a good lecturer, not even an “average” 1…….
another thing……yes u r right…….y the company still hire her if she’s dat bad……i wan to kno the answer too…………since APIIT has a so “good” reputation…..
@the wise one
haha…. seriously wat u say were rite but u cannot be sure how much degradation there were ever since ur last visit to the apiit? i know there are worst college out there, i been there and done that and apiit could be better than most college but certainly it had so much degradation tat it no longer one of the best in comparison to the previous achievement of apiit, there were so many degraded lecturer there, i had trouble surviving their onslaught……. oh come on, i dun mind if the lecturer got qualification but they dun even know wat they teaching…… walao……. i wish i had transfered….. T.T
Greetings
I believe there may be some gray areas i didnt highlight, first of all, I actually came over to share some of my experience with all of you. We are all from APIIT like a family, and I would like very much to see all of you be successful in life, almost all of us from APIIT have been successful. That is why I explained some of the common mistakes i made as a student and explain the actual industrial scenario. That is also why I requested ex APIITians to share experiences with all of you as well. So that you guys will have a better understanding of how corporates work and the way managers will think. All this is very important because, if you want to climb the ladder, you need to play your role very well, and to do that, you need a good understanding of how the industry works.
Please note, on whatever I say, whether it is right or wrong it is for you to judge, but these are things for you all to seriously think about. Thoughts to prepare before you go into the industry.
About lecturers and freedom of speech, well I encourage freedom of speech. If you are dissatisfied with something, you should voice it out, but when you voice out be professional, don’t get personal. Why I said that being personal is not a good thing, because, in the industry, a manager, will see your lecturer as your previous employer cum client. So to them, if you cant find a good rapport with your lecturer and personally attack a lecturer, you are capable of doing the same to your manager or client. I understand, this is not always true, but that is how managers see things, and we have to live with that. Why is this so? This, because sometimes in real life, you can get very sarcastic and irritating clients, and trust me, they wont care bout what you have to say, to them they paid you, you should do your job, full stop. If you cant deal with your lecturer, trust me, you cannot deal your client. Like I said, its ok to talk about your lecturer, but it’ll be good if you can remove the personal stuff, it looks ethically bad on you.
In regards to APIIT putting it up, well, they put it up on the site, but ethically, did you do the right thing by adding that to the blog and making fun of the lecturer? In real life your coleagues may do things that are wrong, should you follow them? If you are caught doing something wrong by your employer, will the employer accept the excuse that just because others are doing it, you are doing it too? In most cases, they dont. They may even fire you to set an example to other staff to not do it again, and mind you things like that do happen. Again, these are very important ethical values in the industry.
Forget about the lecturer, I’m only using the lecturer as an example, but what I’m trying to say is that every little thing that we do counts towards our professionalism. I’m not here to tell you what is right or wrong, I am only pointing out issues which all of us can and most probably will face in the industry, when we start working. Why I write so much is so that all of you can relate to the article and gain the understanding of what I’m trying to deliver.
In anything that you do, always try to be empathic; always try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes and try to understand how the other person feels in that situation. Why this is useful is because if you want to solve a problem, you need to study the situation and what possibilities will be there in such a situation, and to be able to study that, you need to be empathic, only then can you think of solutions.
Please do think about what I’ve said in the comments. My apologies if any inconveniences.
the wise one
Malas wanna argue liao.. If oni few of few the same thing u can call that prejudice, but obviously not few of us but few classes lor.. Whatever lar.. I dun give a damn..
I just hope I won meet her anymore else i really need to wait for tapao
wow! the wise one.. a really good comprehension there yea.. first of all i wanna applause for ur speech.. its real good. I have nothing much to say but you are not the one who gone through what she is teaching.
You will never know.. you listen from blah blah blah and blah blah they say one of the lecturer from APIIT is blah blah blah and so on.. Vice versa, experience it yourself and you yourself will tell me what is a good lecturer and this and that and then again.
All of us that has commented here and speak out here has been teached by her before ..so we guys experience what she did to us. Ohh well not that bad but.. not a normal lecturer should be. I have no comments torwards her old personal life tho…but please.. as a lecturer be wise on what you are doing.. you are an example for a bunch of students like us.
So a thrid class student case, no comment and prejudice on that if she is wise, well experienced and she has good teaching skills. We are relating the 3rd class matter to her now because she ain’t doing what she is supposed to do. Not because she is a 3rd class and blah blah lecturer we condemn her and flame her.
well.. my own opinions tho.. sorry if i offended you ppl outthere. I m just voicing out my own opinions.
you would’nt know what is the realy feeling okay,i had not idea how apiit get into this situation, they seriously lack of quality staff hmmmph i don see any strong recruitment on this but i only saw they dump dump dump $$$ for the NICE TOILET….woots rox okay apiit!! we love apiit damn freaking much….
@merdurian: i think u missed the briefing about level 2.. coz there’s a slide on there that mentioned about independent learning. if you were to study overseas, do you think u’ll get the kind of privileges that the lecturers in malaysia are so kind enough to go feed u nearly everything meh?
haxor: I mean the way they lecture. Doesn’t mean that I want lecturer spoon feed me -.- I had self-study since foundation - level 1 already. I don’t think lecturer in Malaysia (APIIT) got spoon feed me also.
@haxor: did u means we do not nid any lecturer?if the lecturer does not giv any knowledge to us, wat for we pay so much to the coll?..Malaysia, we self-study since 2ndry school, but there is free, cozz goverment school, but yet now we pay money, so r we expect there is somethg from the lecturer?..i dun think she giv us anythg dats new to us..=P
Independent learning doesnt mean the lecturer take 0 responsibility on us.. If u say so what for we attend class? Why not just download the slide and read ourself? Their job is to guide us not spoonfeed us I understand but she cant even do the proper job of guiding us.. Our maths lecturer been guiding us VERY WELL.. he might be strict compare to some other maths lecturer but we still like his way of teaching..I wish Sunita have half of our maths lecturer which is more than enough already..
What was mention is Ms. Sunita (lecturer) got a 3rd class degree that I am not too sure. But I was her student before for a subject called “DDD”- Database,Design & Development; what happen in my situation is… Ms. Sunita never pay attention what she is teaching (Gave wrong answer while teaching), gave us break for more than 45 mins to 1 hour (Because she is busy doing her assignment “Master”) & (Busy on the mobile phone). I did complain by writing the feedback… Useless. Worst is I don’t know How Ms. Sunita got to know what i wrote on the Feedback! Beware…
wah.. even i get 2nd class lower and i’m not a lecturer.. haha.. good luck in studes also
Hi,
I am from India and my younger brother is planning to do a undergraduate course from UCTI, Malaysia. Pls. guide me :-
1) Is it worth studying in UCTI.
2) If yes, then how is “Technopreneurship” Course
3) How is the campus & other infrastructure.
All, Ex- APIIT/UCTI students — Pls.spare some time to guide me. It involves lot of money & emotional attention and hence your cooperation & unbiased analysis is required.
to tarun: I’m not sure about the course that you and your younger brother into.. As far as I know, the lecturer is really depends on your luck.. There are good and bad lecturer you may get.. Somehow if you think you can study yourself ( I mean after class you can go library study yourself), APIIT ain’t that bad for you.. I admit I’m not a person like to study at library unless I have to so lecturer’s guiding is important to me.. The campus itself is nice during my foundation, however along with the increment of the number of students, it become sucks.. They create classroom by making big class room to small one, making it unsuitable place.. The library is good i must say altho I don’t spend much time on it xD.. The computer lab is a place full of virus-es, after u plug in ur pendrive be sure to clean it..Other infrastructure is okay for me, the main problem is when they hire some stupid lecturer like we said before, all she care is her handphone.. Ofcourse there are some good lecturer too ^^ I suggest you find more choices (colleges) and compare yourself..
Hi Tarun, thank you for dropping by here. Every college have their benefits and their shortcomings. When we talk about previous APIIT, we can give a thumbs on it. However, 1 year ago, APIIT/UCTI become too commercialized. It is obvious that I can see the result of student increment here, yet the campus is really small here. However if your younger planning to study on next year, I think shouldn’t be any problem since they’re moving to new campus soon. (I can’t guarantee the living cost on new campus due to popularity of the area).
1) Is it worth studying in UCTI
I cant promise anything to you. As sirusu’s comment above, it depends whether your younger brother is independent enough. Not every lecturers have know how to lecture. Some of the lecturers holding Master degree yet they might not know how to answering your questions sometimes.
If you have any alternative college selection, would you mind to list out here? Probably I can give some opinion on it.
2) If yes, then how is “Technopreneurship” Course
sorry to tell you that I am not sure about Technopreneurship’s course offered by UCTI. After I read through the subjects available on Bsc(Hons) in technopreneurship, I believe the course is similar to business computing. Whereby you’ll learning how to develop a software management using suitable methodologies as well as programming such as (C, C++ , Java), quite worth to take the subject.
3)
Library have limited resource. Since the student is increasing, library did not order extra numbers of the same book. Cafeteria is OK, computer lab is ok but do not simply plug your thumbdrive to computer lab. Otherwise you’ll get some annoying spyware/adware back to your personal computer.
Talk about lectuers, many good lecturers were dragged by other colleges. So? you can imagine by yourself
Anyway, I will write more about APIIT/UCTI after few months. (I’m gonna get out from APIIT, because I’m frustrated about some of the lecturers)
